The empty analysis and the lesson for Vietnamese football

Across 33 years of covering football, I have rarely seen an analysis so long and yet so empty. No player name, no score, no source. This is not writing; it is a frame pumped with air. Vietnamese football media suffers from an inverse problem: more content than ever, but scarcely any verifiable data. I learned a lesson from the rain at Thống Nhất — a piece went viral because it touched collective memory, not because it invented facts. Memory must be rooted in truth. Every tactical breakdown should answer: Which player? Which minute? Which source? If not, throw it away. Too many vague phrases make a writer look smart but say nothing. We need writers brave enough to say “I don’t know.” Vietnamese football is growing, and its media must grow too. The next generation, bring us data, not adjectives.
